Social Media allows you to post on your feed or post on your story, sounds pretty simple huh?

You’d be surprised at how many people don’t know how to use stories, but understandably so. Not everyone is advanced on social media, and that is ok.

So let’s get into it…

What is an Instagram story

An Instagram story allows users to post photos or videos that will be available for only 24 hours. Did you know that over 500 million Instagrammers use stories on a daily basis? This statistic alone shows how important it is that you are using Instagram stories to increase your reach.

How to use Instagram stories

To create an Instagram story, you will see a ‘+’ icon in the top right corner of the platform. Clicking on this icon will open some features and allow you to choose ‘story’. Your camera should now open where you can either take a new photo/video, or select an older photo from your camera album. There are a number of filters and additional features that can be added at this stage, but let’s focus on that a bit later on!

Instagram Story Stickers

Stickers are a feature that was added a few years ago, and we love them. Did you know that stories with stickers generally perform better than those without? Well now you do!

Certain stickers on Instagram allow you to potentially reach thousands of Instagrammers within your location or within a similar industry. Staying consistent with your stories and stickers is crucial to build trust and credibility.

To add a sticker, click on the square smiley face in the top right corner and a great selection of stickers should appear. Check out our chosen sticker below, good old ‘London‘.

Instagram Story Highlights

So now you know what a story is and how to use one, let’s get it added to your highlight section.

A highlight section of any Instagram profile is greatly important, more than one may think. For businesses, it is beneficial to use the highlight section to outline different parts of the business. For example, ‘projects’, ‘prices’, or ‘FAQs’.

How to add to your highlights:

  • Go to your Instagram profile
  • Click on ‘new’, the circle on the far right
  • Select stories to be included in that highlight
  • Choose an album cover & name

Pro’s & Con’s of Instagram stories

Pro’s:
  1. Easy to use/explore – Even if you are an Instagram newbee, you shouldn’t find it too difficult navigating stories! Don’t be afraid to learn/play around.
  2. It shows that your brand is fun/humanises your brand – Nobody likes pages that have nothing exciting or fun to look at, do they? Using stories can show prospects that there is more to your brand than a product!
  3. B2C Interaction Opportunity – What a great way to attract your prospects, as well as engage in ‘story replies’ or ‘polls/questionnaires’.
Con’s:
  1. It disappears after 24 hours – We have all been there right? Seeing ’23h’ on a story and wishing it would stay for another 23h! Why should your great content only be seen for 24 hours? I suppose we do have the feed though don’t we… so less complaining!
  2. AND….

Yep…. we can’t think of another con? Can anyone else? Instagram stories really are a win-win, who wouldn’t like them?
